Applications of Blogs to my Practice
Cyberbullying is a constant threat to our kids, and as a school counselor I must be informed about the subject in order to help the students that I counsel. Blogs can be helpful in various ways: as a resource for students who need information, as a way to understand that others have experienced the same issues, and as a way to spread information that is helpful to those students who have sufferred from bullying. One reminder: resources must always be verified. Remember, one way that cyberbullies are successful is the ability to spread false information very quickly!

Teaching and Learning Strategies
| As educators, we are interested in sharing strategies to educate students on basic internet use and protect students against being bullied online. The Teacher's Page at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/teach/kidsonline is a great resource. Counselors and/or teachers can present the Frontline video to students to initiate a discussion of this important topic. There is a lesson plan, "How Did My Space Become Your Space" and two student handouts guiding students to investigate and reflect on the social network experience. Teachers, check out these resources and let us know what you think! |
